Her hand is small in mine, and the juxtaposition of our sizes is doing weird things in my brain.

I had a few plans for this last-minute trip. Watch some hockey. Eat some bad-for-me food. Find a way to irritate Nash, just because he’s so damn fun to rile up. Not once was kiss West Carter on that list. And there definitely wasn’t any sign of metaphorically throwing myself at her feet and praying she decides to keep me.

I totally got sucked into the Omegaverse. Question is, do I even want to find my way out?

We’re walking along the mostly empty halls, heading for the Phoenix Heat’s locker room. The game is over, Porter Hanson having won the game by a well-played shot. I’ve gotta give it to the man—Omega or not, the dude can play a decent game of hockey. Of course, I won’t say that in front of Nash or risk getting my teeth knocked out.

Thoughts of my roommate and his claim on the woman walking quietly beside me bounce around in my head. From the outside looking in, there’s no way these guys will ever be able to set aside their differences and make this work. As the man on the inside, able to see past their public personas, I think these men need each other. Sure, there are bound to be growing pains and some heated exchanges as they try to work around their love of the same woman, but something tells me it’ll be worth it. I’ll get to watch this pack form from the ground up, and I’m not sure I’ve ever been more excited about anything in my life…except maybe the idea that I might get to be a part of it. For the first time, I feel like I fit in. Like I belong with a growing pack where everyone is learning and growing and coming together to form something great. I can be useful in a way that most established packs don’t necessarily need. I can be the neutral force that helps West bind everyone together, but more importantly, I can be West’s support when the others are being dickheads.

“You’re quiet,” she murmurs, shooting me a hesitant glance.

“As one is when their entire world is shifting right before their eyes.”

She blinks a couple of times, the corner of those plush lips quirking up. “Touché.”

“I’m a little in awe of you, to be honest.” I squeeze her hand a little tighter, overcome with an insane need to draw her into me and keep her close. I refrain, barely.

“In awe of me? Psssh. I’m in awe of you. Stepping right into the middle of the battlefield, only a kiss for a weapon and no shield in sight. You’re a brave man, Ziggy Marshall.”

I grin. “Brave or incredibly overconfident?”

“Probably a little of both to be fair.”

I chuckle lightly even as my heart pounds fiercely in my chest. “And here you are, walking hand in hand with a guy you only met a little over an hour ago, and you call me brave.
